Kiss a sleepless night good-bye

You can't make it without coffee throughout the day? And this powerful stimulant it keeps you from relaxing and putting your head to rest at night? If this rings true to you, then your relationship with coffee runs deep.

But drinking coffee shortly after waking up can affect our circadian clock as it curbs the production of cortisol. Dubbed the stress hormone, cortisol helps us wake up in the morning and wind us down at night. The gist is that when our body releases cortisol, we feel more awake. Caffeine interferes with the cortisol production and we produce less of the hormone and rely more on the caffeine. But no need to dump the coffee into the sink; One or two cups at the right time of the day is actually healthy for your body.

Instead, start and end your day with a cup of green tea. Unlike coffee, tea has a reputation as a sip meant for sleepy time. And although if it contains caffeine, it is less stimulating than coffee. Green tea will keep you fit during the whole day, and at the same time, lets you relax and be calm. It contains an amino acid called theanine, which is linked to reducing anxiety and promoting sleep. Tea drinkers are said to be quicker to de-stress and less stressed in general. Green tea stimulates your cognitive functions by improving memory and attention. Last but not least, the world’s healthiest beverage helps reduce high blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels, and it is also loaded with anti-oxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body.

Relax bonus: Tea prevents the absorption of iron, which helps us fight tiredness. To avoid a possible iron deficiency, you should wait at least 90 minutes before and after meals to drink your tea.
